I&#039;m not sure we are yet able to view reproduction and genetic transmission with fully clear senses. That is because we are all so steeped in the notion that the only reason for living is breeding. This is a cultural inheritance from the age of agricultural civilization. 

It just may be that &quot;evolution&quot; may be exploring the state where what the individual and the collective do with their community is more important than the material transmissional mechanism for supporting the development of that state. In other words, breeding may be one end to the goal (a way to keep replicating and experimenting with the mechanism). But there&#039;s gotta be Reason, to put it anthropocentrically, that Mind evolved, and the best Minds tend to opt out of breeding in favor of developing their potential. The vessel is just one thing...it&#039;s not everything.
