I hope that I am presenting the new public face of atheism. We need to be known as advocates not nay-sayers. And there are more important things than whether or not people believe in God.

However the project of a smarter society does have room for promoting skepticism in belief in God.

Holy Crap! Are there more Atheists like you out there?! You couldn't have outlined better my frustration with most atheist I meet. I cannot bare to have another conversation about evolution. The proof is there! We've presented it a million different way there is only waiting left to do, the world isn't going to change because we write a few sentences in a blog.

After watching "An Inconvenient Truth" for a second time about a year ago, I wrote to my congressman, Representative Phil English, R, PA 3rd District about the issue of global warming. While he did not provide an immediate plan for action, he did state that "(w)e should assess (alternative energy possibilities) based on science, not ideology or politics." In this regard, I fully agree with him. As noted in the article, just like ID, many in the political world have been making the science of global warming out to be controversial. It's not. We need to hold our politicians accountable for getting familiar with the scientific evidence and voting in a manner that will take the necessary steps to save our planet. Nice piece, Rodrigo.

I think the statistics on global warming denial among the U.S. population would be worse than the statistics on denying evolution.

Speaking of climate change deniers, a few months ago I was crossing the border into the U.S. and got stopped by the border guards for 15 minutes, not because there was anything wrong, but because I informed the guard that I worked at a Science advocacy institute and so we got into a debate about global warming. Of course, he was a denier, and I tried to explain to him the value of the consensus of the Scientific community to no avail.
